Michael Bühler-Rose, received a Fulbright Fellowship to India and obtained his BFA (2005) from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Tufts University. At present, he is a Graduate Alumni Fellow at the University of Florida (MFA, 2008), critic and Assistant Professor, Department of Photography, at the Rhode Island School of Design. He's an accomplished photographer who has been collected, exhibited, and published internationally. He received a Humble Arts Foundation Grant for Emerging Photographers to support this project.

ReplyDeleteThese photographs by Michael Bühler-Rose have an unusual quality about them, as the surroundings are of another alien world to the women depicted here.
ReplyDeleteAlmost like a collage, as with the third image that is represented here, while the first one is almost like a traditional paInting in the style of Ingres or Jacques-Louis David with a modern twist of course.

These photographs have a painterly quality about them, almost 19th century...I can't put my finger on why I feel this and I maybe the only one to see it! Great work, thanks for bringing it to our attention.
ReplyDeleteEgmont, You're right. Michael Bühler-Rose, who spent many years living in India, was influenced by 19th century traditional Indian artist Raja Ravi Varma.
