President Obama met with H.H. Dalai Lama, the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader, at the White House today. Every U.S. President has met with H.H. The Dalai Lama since he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989.

I got the chance to photograph H.H the Dalai Lama for a few hours at a private engagement in October while he was here in Calgary. What an amazing presence he carries. It's truly an honor to be in the same room with him.

So glad this meeting took place. Both much admired. The Dalai Lama is what still keeps the idea of religion alive for me.
It's lovely to see how people light up around this spiritual leader, and the first picture looks so radiant both ways.

It would be intersting just to observe the nuances of such a meeting.....body language etc.
An intellect such as Obama's studied by the old cat....
I'd enjoy watching that ! The Llama can be a real hoot in some circumstances.
