In 1930 the Merch Mart was built on the site of a former Native American trading post, Wolf Point, the main point of supplies for traders and trappers heading west. Designed to be a "city within a city", the Merch Mart was the largest building in the world with 4,000,000 sq feet. It was owned for over 50 years by the Kennedy family until 1998.
